(New York, NY 02/03/2016) – Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC) is excited and proud to collaborate with the administration of Mayor Bill de Blasio to supplement the housing legal services we provide to our communities and to expand those essential services with our first permanent Bronx office. The Human Resources Administration (HRA) recently announced two large initiatives to help prevent homelessness by providing legal representation and advocacy to low income tenants throughout New York City. Typically, tenants in New York City must appear in court unrepresented against landlords who routinely appear with attorneys. This increased funding will allow NMIC to provide additional attorneys to community residents and tenant associations helping ensure safe and affordable housing in upper Manhattan and to allow easier access to these services for nearby Bronx residents who have sought services from our offices in dramatically increasing numbers as displacement pressures have multiplied in recent years.

NMIC’s legal services are the cornerstone to ensuring the rights of tenants are protected against the common problems of unfair eviction and substandard housing. We represent tenants and tenant associations to secure stable and safe housing accommodations and avoid eviction. Housing clients are welcome at our main office at 45 Wadsworth Avenue every Monday and Thursday beginning at 8:00am on a first come, first serve basis. We will distribute information regarding Bronx intake services in the near future. #
