On April 6th, NMIC hosted an Open House Breakfast at our newest office, which is in the University Heights neighborhood of the Bronx. The event highlighted our response to the increasing need for legal services for Bronx tenants. Thanks to the support of the New York City Council, the Human Resources Administration and the LEAP Coalition, 474 Bronx tenants have been served- and counting!
One of the first clients to be served by the Bronx office was Porfiria Plancarte, who first received support for her domestic violence issues at our Main Office, but was still struggling with eviction in the Bronx. Porfiria bravely shared her story about how our Bronx staff reduced her rent, resolved her eviction case, and ensured a stable home for her family.
The Bronx Office was also granted its first proclamation, which was presented by the NYC Commissioner of Social Services, Steven Banks.
