NMIC Raises Over $85,000 At "Building Communities"

On Thursday October 5th, 2017, NMIC hosted our 3rd Annual Benefit, “Building Communities” at International House.

It was a spectacular evening that celebrated the people and organizations that have helped build our community, and highlighted how our services are shaping the next generation of leaders in upper Manhattan and the Bronx.

Following the cocktail hour, the main program kicked-off with a hilarious skit from our hosts, Juan Bago and Rachel La Loca, featuring our Executive Director, Maria Lizardo, as the duo attempt to intern at NMIC only to discover there’s a lot more than meets the eye!

Watch the skit.

The event honored Monsignor Sullivan, for his role as a co-founding member of NMIC and community visionary; Jeanne Mullgrav for her passion to develop excellent youth programming; Dan Weisz, for his commitment to creating affordable housing; and the 652-656 West 160th Street HDFC for their leadership as a pioneering housing cooperative.

Guests were also treated to a video message from our 2016 Rising Star Honoree, Joey Fernandez, a young man who came to NMIC only a few years ago to pursue his High School Equivalency degree. Today, Joey not only has his HSE, but he has also obtained his Associate’s degree and is currently at Georgetown University working towards his Bachelor’s degree.

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and guests, we’re proud to announce that we have raised over $85,000 to fund vital services that will help community members on their paths to secure and prosperous futures.

Thank you.
