Learn how a new boiler installed by NMIC’s Weatherization Assistance Program provides more than heat for our community members.

“Keeping Warm, Creating Jobs and Lowering Bills in NYC”

For most of us, a winter without heat is unimaginable, but for many low-income community members, it’s a chilly reality that NMIC’s Weatherization Assistance Program is working to change.

One of our recent projects was featured in an article by the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC), an international nonprofit that works to protect the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. The article highlights how WAP’s work in one Harlem building changed the lives of its long-time residents who suffered through many winters with little-to-no heat or hot water.

Our Weatherization team not only replaced the faulty boiler with a new, energy efficient boiler, they also made upgrades throughout the building to keep the heat in and lower tenants costs by up to 50% each year!
