Health Insurance Enrollment

We have enrolled over 5,000 participants in health insurance since November 2003.

Uninsured, undocumented individuals are often unaware of the health care services available to them – a problem that is only worsened for non-English speaking immigrants. As a result, any immigrants avoid getting needed medical attention because of fear of deportation. Those who do go to the doctor are often conned into paying high Emergency Room costs that send them spiraling into debt.

Impact:

  • We advocate for Seniors with Medicare Part D monthly on issues raging from prescription, case investigation, and Medicare navigation.
  • Through the Health Stat program we have been able to enroll over 5,000 participants in health insurance since November 2003. We enrolled 1410 individuals in 2005 alone.
  • Our Health Stat coordinator, Jules Douge, has received a Community Award from NY Presbyterian Hospital, an Ambassador Award from the Mayor's Office of Health, a Mother Teresa Award for Community Awareness, and the Community Excellence award from Empire State College for community Achievement since starting at NMIC in 2003.
