NMIC's Legal Department was instrumental in commencing a class action lawsuit against the New York City Department of Finance to address how rental subsidy benefits for seniors and disabled are terminated. The case was covered by the New York Times.
Staff Attorney Shantonu Basu assisted a long-term tenant retain her apartment when the tenant was threatened with eviction for having too many nonpayment cases despite having withheld her rent for repairs. The case was published in the New York Law Journal.
