NMIC's Adult Education department was recently awarded a two year, NYS Education Department (SED) Literacy Zone initiative grant in the amount of $325,000 per year. The grant will enable NMIC to increase the scope of its community-based literacy services, thus permitting NMIC to help raise the literacy and English language proficiency of the residents of Washington Heights and Inwood. Through the initiative, NMIC will be able to provide a wide array of instruction in the following areas: ESOL, pre-GED, GED, Family Literacy, Citizenship, workplace and financial literacy, among others.
