Mayor
Bloomberg and Consumer Affairs Commissioner Mintz came to Northern
Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC) on 5/17/10 to announce new debt
collection regulations to protect New Yorkers from being harassed for
debts they do not owe. Given NMIC’s partnership with Credit Where Credit
is Due (CWCID) in providing space for one of the City’s Financial
Empowerment Centers, this was a logical choice of venue for the Mayor’s
announcement. NMIC’s legal prowess in the area of consumer debt coupled
with CWCID’s expertise in financial literacy and credit repair has earned
both organizations a strong reputation in the area of consumer protection.
