The Oak Foundation has awarded NMIC $450,000, over three years, for our Inter-disciplinary Anti-Eviction Housing Project.
The goal of the project is to prevent homelessness in our community, using both eviction prevention legal work and intensive case management that targets "repeaters", clients with underlying social service needs who cycle in and out of our legal services programs.
By diminishing the number of repeaters, legal resources subsequently freed up will be directed towards working more proactively with NMIC's community organizing department to help buildings in poor condition, as well as helping more individuals with eviction cases and providing them with counseling to prevent future crises.
