Earned
Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Free Tax Preparation Program |
| |
In
2008, we brought over $4 million back into the hands
of Northern Manhattan’s poorest residents |
Washington Heights and Inwood
had by far its highest rate of unemployment
at 13.6%. Getting a job can be key to many families survival,
and
obtaining a family-sustaining wage often hinges on work
supports such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
Yet, many who are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit
(EITC), are either unaware of the program or do not know
if they qualify for it. As a result, billions of EITC
dollars are left unclaimed each year. Our ETIC program
helps residents complete their taxes and apply for the
EITC.
Impact:
- The
program brought $4,170,965 in 2008 tax refunds back into
the community.
-
A total of 1,400 - NYC returns were completed an 2,645
returns were filed.
