Low-income New Yorkers have many obstacles to accessing food security, affordable health care, and financial stability. Our Benefits & Finance Services provide our community members with the tools, resources, and services they need to have secure and prosperous futures. These include screening and enrollment assistance to support community members as they navigate the complex systems to access over 40 public benefits, financial empowerment, tax preparation, and more. Our Services

Benefits Access

Application assistance and advocacy to access benefits from NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA) including rental assistance grants, SNAP, and other benefits.

Tax Preparation

 Seasonal tax assistance to low-income individuals and families.

Consumer Debt Legal Services

Advocacy and legal counsel for residents with consumer debt issues including active consumer debt court cases, judgements, frozen bank accounts, and garnishment of wages.

Financial Empowerment

NMIC hosts a NYC Financial Empowerment Center! We partnered with Neighborhood Trust Financial Partners and the NYC Office of Financial Empowerment to provide these services.

Food Pantry

NMIC offers emergency food pantry services with the West Side Campaign Against Hunger.

Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) 

The Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) at NMIC advocates on behalf of people with disabilities who have been denied Social Security Disability Insurance and SSI benefits. 

Promise NYC

NMIC is partnering with Promise NYC to cover the cost of childcare for children who are ineligible for federally subsidized services due to their immigration status.
