NMIC’s neighborhood patrol consisted of four community organizers who monitored the housing conditions and safety of the Washington Heights, Inwood and Marble Hill neighborhoods. In its first year in operation 278 buildings were burglarized, including 36 stores, 14 schools, convents, and churches.

The Neighborhood Patrol was formed to combat the rising crime and empower community members to protect their neighborhood with tenant patrols, block-watching, and crime prevention sessions during tenant meetings.
