Mental Health
The Wellness Program screens clients for mental health needs and connects them to treatment completely for free. We screen 800 community members yearly through this initiative.
What We Do:
- Screen for depression, anxiety, and substance abuse needs.
- Provide on-site support with counseling from a Licensed Mental Health Counselor or graduate student studying bilingual mental health support.
- Offer prioritized, no cost, access to the Dean Hope Center for Educational and Psychological services at Teachers College.
Who We Do it For:
- Clients in our Education & Career Services Department and select clients receiving housing legal services are eligible for these mental health services.
How to Sign Up:
Speak with your case manager if you would like to be screened.

Meet Robert*
Robert received free counseling sessions from us after screening positive for clinically significant levels of anxiety. These sessions supported him through his vocational training program with our Education & Career Services. He was then able to receive a paid internship placement with our Tax Preparation program. The transition into the workforce is usually a time of uncertainty, self-doubt, and fear. Our team provided culturally sensitive and accessible counseling to Robert as he navigated these life changes. Through programming across NMIC’s different departments, Robert was able to gain new skills, both emotionally and professionally.
